PROGRAMME: Development began in 1999; one-third scale model flew October 2000. Announced at Paris Air Show, June 2001; first flight 2002 (unannounced); mockup shown at Paris, June 2003. Deliveries of kit version began in 2003; flyaway deliveries due to have begun in August 2003.

CURRENT VERSIONS: Ultalight (Ultra Leger) Two 29.8 kW (40 hp) Zanzottera flat-twin engines.
Two-seat lightplane: (Avion Biplace) Two engines up to 74.6 kW (100 hp).
Four-seat lightplane: (Avion Quadriplace) Stretched version with two engines up to 74.6 kW (100 hp). Available from 2006.

CUSTOMERS: Seven sales and 80 options by June 2003.

COSTS: Kit €60,000 to €100,000; flyaway €100,000 to €150,000, according to version (2003).

DESIGN FEATURES: Unconventional 'four-wing, push-pull' design, featuring tapered, anhedral foreplane with downturned tips and sweptback (30o), dihedral mainplane with vertical fins at tips; plus flight control system lacking pilot's rudder pedals and incorporating 'glass cockpit'.

FLYING CONTROLS: Manual. Ailerons and flaps on mainplane, plus rudder in each fin; full-span elevators on foreplane. Rudders split as airbrakes.

STRUCTURE: Generally of glass fibre and carbon fibre.

LANDING GEAR: Tricycle type; fixed. Composites cantilever mainwheel legs. Mainwheels 4.00-6; steerable nosewheel, 11x4.00-5.

POWER PLANT: Two piston engines, power according to variant, in tractor/pusher arrangement. Fuel capacity 60 litres (15.9 US gallons; 13.2 Imp gallons) in ultralight; 160 litres (42.3 US gallons; 32.2 Imp gallons) in two- and four-seat versions.

ACCOMMODATION: Two or four persons, according to variant. Two centreline-hinged, upward-opening canopy/doors.

AVIONICS: Comms: Bendix/King KY 97 VHF.
Instrumentation: Single LCD.

EQUIPMENT: BRS-5 ballistic parachute.
