The company moved into new premises in May 1998 and immediately began manufacture of the first Twinjet. In early 2001, Colorado businessman Jim McCotter acquired a majority share in Maverick Air Inc, renaming it Maverick Jets, and announced plans to establish a new company, known as McCotter Aviation, to develop a six-seat, factory-built, FAA-certified version of the Leader, designated MC2400. Development has been delayed by loss of the prototype.
Maverick has subcontracted manufacture of the Leader to Tbilaviamsheni (formerly TAM) at Tbilisi, Georgia.
